Volume I, Issue 47 - Week of December 17, 2009
It is always great to see a positive sign in our current challenging economy. The City’s Willets Point project in Queens had 29 groups come forward expressing interest in reviving the 62-acre area. The responses came from a variety of commercial, residential and mixed-use developers in the U.S.
Another project that is creating positive change for small businesses is the CityCenter in Las Vegas. American Indian owned Nedco became the electrical supplier for the hotel chain, winning over large companies.
President Barack Obama has plans to support small business who is missing out on new procurement opportunities under the stimulus bill. The Obama Administration is now reaching out to the nation’s governors to ensure that M/WBEs participate in transportation projects that receive federal funding.
Check out our new events' postings taking place over the next few months!
More next week,
Renee

Congratulations to senator Bill Perkins and assemblyman Richard Brodsky for bringing state authorities under control.
For decades, political leaders in New York State have used “public authorities” as a mechanism to avoid close scrutiny and oversight. With annual budgets in the billions, many of these authorities and corporations have functioned as independent entities without the openness that is required for good government. A state agency or department is subject to extensive legislative review. These authorities were not.
