Volume I, Issue 44 - Week of November 25th, 2009
This week, New York City officials have chosen one project in each borough to receive tax-free financing through the federal stimulus plan. The five projects received $36 million combined, leaving $90 million left to finance other big city projects.
Speaking of NYC boroughs, The Bronx is the only one to see an increase in employment in the first quarter this year compared to last, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Only three other U.S. counties surpassed The Bronx!
Small, Minority and Women-Owned Businesses in Massachusetts are receiving support from Govenor Deval Patrick and the Administration this week. The governor, who is working with the Massachusetts Community Development Finance Corporation, plans to help them bid and participate in federal stimulus-funded construction projects. SMWBEs will now have access to secure surety bonds, secure bids and guarantee project completion. This can sometimes be difficult for smaller companies to obtain, so they can only benefit from these plans!
The Women Builders Council is happy to see all of these positive changes for SMWBEs and hope to see more like it in the near future!
Save the Date!
Make sure you are registered for the upcoming December 4th New York City School Construction Event – Work Smart with the SCA. There will be opportunities to learn about new SCA programs and procedures as well as meet with general contractors and CMs at a special Business Match.
