Volume I, Issue 43 - Week of November 12th, 2009
|
Through this time of recession and with many people out of jobs, there is a positive side for women in business. While most men have been hit harder by the recession, women are coming close to representing half of the work force, holding 49.85% of national jobs. Although there is still work to be done to achieve equal pay for equal time, it’s good to see the gender gap becoming more narrow.
Things are also looking up for national small, women-owned and minority businesses. Thanks to the efforts of Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, MWBEs are now able to bid on and participate in federal stimulus construction projects. Governor Patrick’s administration is teaming up with the Massachusetts Community Development Finance Corporation to facilitate the bidding process, he announced on Tuesday.
We have several exciting events coming up for small businesses, including the November 19th MTA small business development program at McGraw-Hill, and New York Governor Paterson’s Small Business task force informational workshop on November 20th.
Please take the time and scroll down the page to check out these and other upcoming events in November!
