Volume I, Issue 24 - Week of June 15th, 2009
Approaching quickly is the Energy Efficiency and Green Technology Opportunities: Stimulus and Beyond conference, hosted by the Empire State Development Corporation and the US Department of Commerce. This pioneering effort is designed to inform small businesses about the opportunities available in this exciting field. As the innovations gain momentum, firms can also learn what they need to get involved. Everyone is invited to register to attend, but do so quickly, as the deadline for registration is this week. You can view the Energy website here: www.conferencecenterpresents.com/energyefficiency.
Across the board, we are seeing the fruits of WBE labor. With 7.7 million firms and $1 billion in revenues, we are making an impact on our economy and growing daily. Locally, the New York State government is in constant negotiations regarding the investments in projects, and is making sure that we are included: from Coney Island, Atlantic Yards, to the World Trade Center. And nationally, women like Maranda Pleau are being selected to ensure the transparency of monies from the Economic Recovery Act of Colorado.
Every day, we are forging a grander road in our industry and in our economy.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, as expected, has offered the developer Bruce C. Ratner, break on the sale of the Atlantic Yards site in Brooklyn. City's Coney Island Plan Gets Important Nod

As protesters chanted outside, the City Planning Commission overwhelmingly voted to support the sweeping redevelopment effort. While the City's plan has now smoothly entered its final approval stages, there still is at least one big hitch. In order to implement its vision, the City still needs to purchase a large tract of land on the Coney Island boardwalk. Joseph Sitt and his company, Thor Equities, which owns 10.5 acres of land there, have rejected several offers by the city to purchase the land citing low offers. Mr. Sitt paid $93 million for the land about five years ago. That impasse continues. |

WTC Could Hinder Lag
6/18/2009 - Source: New York Post
Tapping the Port Authority's coffers to help Larry Silverstein finance two of his World Trade Center towers would come at the cost of long-awaited transit projects, including a rebuilt terminal at La Guardia Airport and the Moynihan train station. Silverstein has been clashing with the agency over rebuilding the site.
Atlantic Yards Won't Be Derailed
6/21/2009 - Source: Crain's New York

Forest City, Ratner's long-delayed, dramatically altered Atlantic Yards project, faces two key votes this week on its latest changes. Critics say the modifications will dilute—or erase—the plan's pledged public benefits.
