Hampton, Virginia shows New York City and New York State how to better include W/MBEs

The plan is a follow-up to a disparity study, released in January 2006, which examined spending on goods and services by the city and the school division between 1999 and 2003.

SBA misses key deadlines under federal stimulus program

The Small Business Administration has implemented only two of the eight provisions included in the federal stimulus bill to boost lending to small companies.

On March 16, the SBA eliminated fees on the agency's 7(a) and 504 loans, and it increased the maximum government guarantee on 7(a) loans to 90 percent from 85 percent. The actions have boosted SBA lending; the agency is approving 28 percent more loans per week than it was before the changes.

New Worker Safety Campaign

Buildings Commissioner Robert LiMandri joined Immigrant Affairs Commissioner Guillermo Linares, representatives from the city’s leading construction firms, industry unions and worker advocacy groups to announce the launch of a citywide worker safety campaign to encourage construction workers to properly wear their safety harnesses at all times while working at a construction site. Thousands of posters, banners and brochures - in English, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Korean, Hindi and Urdu - are being distributed throughout the city, including high-rise construction sites, designated worker centers, union halls, community centers, telephone kiosks, and the Buildings Department’s five borough offices.
